Installation: Ugnė Makselytė

Professor and the curator of the final exhibition: Dimitris Maronidis

The sound pieces used as material for the interactive sound installation were released as a cassette by an independent experimental music label "Right Now" records by Tadas Greičiūnas.

Cassette is distributed by TapeKiosk

This release features sounds that were an integral part of a sound installation created during the summer of 2022.

The interactive installation aimed to draw attention to the details of our everyday experiences and the beauty of human perception. It was designed to be a user-friendly tool for exploring order in chaos and finding beauty in seemingly unpleasant things.

Unfortunately, after the exhibition in the parking lot of the Music Department at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the sound installation disappeared under mysterious circumstances. But the focus is now on the sounds themselves. You will hear seven short pieces based on recordings of ASMR videos and some electroacoustic experimental improvisations.

During the project, author remained conscious of the environmental details while expressing the texture of different materials through sound. The goal was to remind us that the more external details we let into our lives, the richer our experience becomes.

And in the end, it's clear that order and beauty exist even in the seemingly mundane, as exemplified by the flashlight shining down the throat.

INSTALLATION

The installation was composed of two sound controllers and a microphone. The controllers were two boxes that displayed the artist's collages of photographs of her own body parts, retouched and used to create symmetrical visual compositions. They were also decorated with various textures created using paint, glue, and organic details such as shells and dried grasses. The controllers were controlled by potentiometers and distance-responsive infrared sensors. The microphone installed in the installation captured the soundscape of the underground car park of the Music Faculty of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

The photo-collaged controller allowed the listener to independently mix the recorded sound collages created by the author, which were mainly composed of ASMR sound recordings, vocal improvisations, and various sonic experiments simmilar to the ones of the FOLEY to life. The listener could control the volume level of the sound collages by operating four potentiometers, thus creating an individual and spontaneous listening experience.

Another controller, decorated with shells and paint, controlled the microphone. It was equipped with a single potentiometer to control the volume level of the microphone, which directly captured the environment, while two distance-responsive sensors controlled effects that processed the input of the microphone.

The listener could thus control the delay and vibrato effects with their own hands, resulting in an interesting deconstruction of the soundscape of the recorded environment. Finally, the listeners had the opportunity to mix live and spontaneous sound collages created by the author with live ambient sounds and processed effects.

Instalation was created as a part of a university course "Interactive Music Systems" at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Music Department.
